Kala Darshini Annual Cultural Festival was held from November 13

th to 15th despite the inclement weather and threat of cyclone. The Festival was inaugurated on 13th morning as a few hundreds of students gathered with great enthusiasm to take part in the festival events. Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award winner Smt. Dandamudi Sumathi Rammohan (Mrudangam Vidwan) lit the lamp as a mark of inauguration, Rev. Fr. Rex Angelo SJ declared the Festival open in the presence of Sri Himasagar Chandramurthy, a noted sitar player who later greeted the participant students.
The response to the festival was overwhelming. There were as many as a thousand participants for eight disciplines are art. In order to ensure objective evaluation, the judges were brought from Hyderabad, Eluru, Gudivada, Warangal, Rajahmundry etc. The judges appreciated the meticulous arrangements made for the smooth and fair running of the Festival.

The Award Ceremony

was something of an attraction this year. Two noted veteran film artistes graced the Ceremony. Former MP, Urvasi Sarada and Prajanati, Kalabharathi and Former MP Jamuna were felicitated for their life time achievements. Both of them spoke inspiringly. They spoke about the social responsibility which is violated both in the present day film making and the viewership. They cautioned today’s youth to watch only the good films. Sri GSRKR Vijaya Kumar IAS, the Alumnus of ALC and the Vice-Chairman, VUDA-VGTM, was the chief guest of the function. Dr. M.C. Das introduced distinguished artistes to the audience. Mr. Ratan Krishnamurthy, Deputy GM, Godrej Household Products Ltd. and Mr. M. Venkat Reddy, Area Sales Manager of Godrej Company were the other dignitaries on the dais besides Fr. A. Stanley SJ, Rector of ALC and Fr. Francis Xavier SJ, Principal, ALC.
Fr. D. Ravi Sekhar SJ, the director, thanked the sponsors whose generous contribution made the Festival possible. He thanked especially Godrej Household Products Ltd., Indian Overseas Bank, Divya Silks and a number of parents of the students from Bharatanatyam department. Thanked also the heads of the institutions, the team managers, the parents and the teachers for taking keen interest in encouraging the students to participate in Kala Darshini Cultural Festival 2010. He concluded saying that Kala Darshini has always been committed to the mission of cultural formation, promotion and preservation through all its manifold activities in the sphere of culture and fine arts for last two decades.
